Referrals and Fees
Your treatment will be clinically tailored to your needs as determined by one of our experienced specialist Radiation Oncologists using the very latest treatment approaches and technology. A referral is required from your GP or Specialist for your initial consultation. Most radiation therapy can be given on an out-patient basis.
A member of our administration team will discuss any out-of-pocket expenses at your first appointment, before your treatment commences to ensure you are aware of any fees.
The centre sees both public and private patients for radiation therapy, private health insurance is not required (radiation therapy services only).
All radiation therapy services, including the fees charged by ICON Toowoomba’s radiation oncologists are covered under Medicare, with 80-90 percent of treatment costs reimbursed.
Multidisciplinary Meetings
As part of the wider cancer care service multidisciplinary team meetings are held for the following:
- Head and Neck Cancers
- Breast Cancer
- Gastrointestinal and Colorectal Cancers
- Urogenital Cancers
These meetings include specialist doctors (medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, surgeons and other medical specialists) nursing and allied health staff. Patient cases are discussed and a treatment plan formulated. The multidisciplinary approach to patient management results in improved patient care through the development of an agreed treatment plan. Patients are provided with the best evidence based care and improved satisfaction with treatment.
