Quality Initiatives and Programs

St Andrew's Toowoomba Hospital has a comprehensive quality improvement program to monitor, assess and improve its quality of health service delivery. Key components of that program include:

  • implementation and compliance with the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards and the Private Patient's Hospital Charter
  • benchmarking our performance against other healthcare facilities nationally, including other private hospitals of a similar size.
We achieve these goals by having processes for clinical audit and risk management in place which are continuously monitored and actioned where necessary. Details of our quality and risk management strategies are communicated monthly to our Board of Governors to ensure we implement processes to improve patient safety and satisfaction with their care.
The St Andrew's Toowoomba Hospital Board of Governors is responsible for overseeing the overall governance standards for the provision of safe and quality healthcare. The Director of Clinical Services facilitates this by providing a monthly Clinical Governance report to the Chief Executive Officer for the Board.
St Andrew's Toowoomba Hospital is committed to training staff and volunteers to ensure all staff members understand their role and responsibilities in relation to safety and quality. St Andrew's Toowoomba Hospital maintains a 'JUST' culture of safety where employees are encouraged to admit when they make mistakes. This allows us to identify methods to improve processes to prevent further errors from occurring.
