Cardiac Catheterisation Lab

On 16th September 2002, St Andrew's Toowoomba Hospital, opened the John and Beryl Macvean Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory.

The laboratory, complete with its own diagnostic x-ray and imaging equipment allows Toowoomba cardiologists to perform cardiac catheterisation diagnostic procedures here, rather than in Brisbane.

Providing a labratory in Toowoomba has also eased the pressure on cardiologists' waiting lists by lessening the time spent in travel to perform diagnostic procedures.

Construction of the laboratory facility was made possible by a generous bequest from the estate of the late John and Beryl Macvean. The operating theatre complex was extended to provide a dedicated suite for cardio-vascular procedures.

The laboratory is equipped with the latest in advanced digital technology from Siemens Medical. Similar equipment has been installed into tertiary teaching hospitals within Australia, providing the best image quality at the lowest possible radiation dose.

The Siemens Medical equipment is able to perform both cardiac and vascular procedures, enabling accurate imaging of blood vessels throughout the whole body from the intricate vessels of the heart to the major vessels carrying blood to the lower body.
