Donation Provides “Breath of Fresh Air” for Terminally Ill Patients

14 Mar 17

The St Andrew’s Palliative Care Support Program, providing remote support services for terminally ill patients and their families, has received a generous donation from local fitness group, Toowoomba Road Runners enabling the purchase of an Oxygen Concentrator Unit for terminally ill patients.

The Oxygen Concentrator enables palliative patients to stay in their homes longer with their loved ones during the final phase of their lives.  An Oxygen Concentrator delivers purified oxygen via a nasal tube or mask and can be used for a number of different medical conditions.  The machine will be available for patients to take home on a loan basis for the period of time needed free of charge.

The St Andrew’s Palliative Care Support Program is designed to enable private palliative care patients to manage their end of life care at home as long as possible, should that be their wish.  It offers both clinical and technical advice to patients, families and carers in order to facilitate end of life care within the home setting.
