St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital opened on 9 July 1966 courtesy of strong community support and a significant contribution from the Bain Family of Jandowae.
The hospital is a registered charitable institution with the Australian Taxation Office (ABN 95 820 855 300) which means that organisations and individuals donation funds to the hospital can claim tax concessions. In addition, the hospital with its not- for- profit status must direct any profits made by the hospital back into the operations of the hospital.
St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital receives no recurrent Commonwealth, State or Local Government assistance. The hospital relies upon community support to assist with meeting the growing needs of the community as well as introducing the latest technological advances in medical and surgical procedures.
The hospital values the ongoing financial support and volunteer involvement from many members of the Toowoomba and Darling Downs Community.
Role in the Community
St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital is a teaching hospital of the University of Queensland through the Rural Clinical School based in Toowoomba. In addition, the hospital provides a venue for student nurse training through the University of Southern Queensland and Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE.
During 2005 – 2007, the hospital completed building developments totalling $12.0 million. Approximately 90% of all building contractors utilised on the building developments were local Toowoomba tradesmen. St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital is committed to supporting the local community which in turn supports the hospital.

The hospital provides services that meet community health needs rather than simply those services that deliver the best returns (eg. Diagnostic Breast Clinic, Cardiac Rehabilitation Service, Diabetes Education Services).
St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital has a reputation for excellence in care and service and has during the past 42 years, been the first private hospital in Toowoomba to undertake a number of new services (eg. Intensive Care Unit, Nuclear Imaging, Radiotherapy and Sleep Studies Unit)
